Easy Gaming Group National Commander League 2022
The Structure and Power Levels
There will be two leagues being run simultaneously, an EDH league and a cEDH league. It will be decided at registration which league players will be playing in at that event.
Neither EGG nor the host stores can be held responsible for players joining the “wrong” league.
Since this format of Magic has no clear legal distinction between EDH and CEDH we will endeavour to level the playing field as best we can. To that end we encourage players to contact their LGS and submit their decklists electronically before the event day. The store TO will then run the deck list through the following portal (https://mtg.cardsrealm.com/en-za/tools/commander-power-level-calculator), which is not perfect but is currently as close as we’re going to get to it, to determine the deck’s power level.
If you are not able to submit before the event then please bring an electronic text document of your deck list with you and the check can be done at registration on the day, but then also please arrive a little earlier so this process can be completed as quickly as possible.
Level 1-8 is considered EDH. Level 9-10 is considered CEDH. A player who’s deck scores a 9-10 will only be allowed to play in the CEDH league, a player who’s deck scores below 9 may choose to play in the CEDH league, but that is their decision and once registered for a league on the day you cannot swap out until the next event. Decks that score 8 or below should register for EDH. Should a player not be able to provide an electronic deck list, the TO at the venue will make the call on the deck power level and register the player for the appropriate league, the TO’s decision is final.
We suggest that if they are planning to register for EDH then each EDH player bring three decks of different power levels for the EDH league event. Once the Rule 0 conversation has been had then players can decide which of their three decks they will play. EDH players may interchange between their three decks according to the Rule 0 conversation throughout the day.
Players are allowed to switch leagues at other events but must play in the selected league at a single event (so I could play in the EDH league at The Geek Home’s first qualifier and then switch to the cEDH league at the next qualifier at The Nexus depending on which league I thought I would do better in).
Each qualifier event will require 5 rounds to be played per league (five rounds of EDH and the same for cEDH). A daily in-store winner may be announced by the store on the day, that is up to the store.
The Points System
Players will receive the following points for placement within their pod during each of the five rounds:
3 points for 1st place
2 points for 2nd place
1 point for 3rd place
0 points for 4th place
Should a player win by eliminating all the remaining players in a single move then the losing players will each receive the next lowest points score (for example: if I have already been eliminated and Ben then defeats the remaining two players in a single play then Ben receives 3 points, the other two players each receive 2 points and I would get a great big zero).
Should a player play a second or third qualifier event at other stores they will receive 1 bonus point per extra venue that they played at. EGG will verify these and add the additional points once qualifiers are complete – this is another reason the player registration forms are vital.
Proxies
The use of proxies as replacements for cards not owned by the player is not allowed. If the player can produce the original card and show it to the TO at the venue, they may play with the proxy.
The Next Steps
The regionals will be the next step on the road to the final, and keep in mind that the stores that post the greatest number of participants in their region will be given the right to host a regional. There being only one participating store in the Eastern Cape and the North West, those two stores will host regionals regardless, however, only one store in Gauteng (except for The Stone Dragon, as they will be hosting the final this year) and one in the Western Cape will win the right to host their Regional.
The top 2 players from each stores qualifying rounds for EDH and cEDH will automatically qualify for Regionals and not need to purchase a ticket for that event. Other players may purchase tickets to the Regional events.
Prize Support
Prize support from EGG and Unplug Yourself is currently TBC for the Regionals and the Final, but it will be good as always and we will update you as we confirm these items going forward. We can confirm that there will be a travel package for the winners of the 3 regionals outside of Gauteng to come up for the final in December 2022.
See you on the battlefield!
