The first of two Star Wars Unlimited Store Showdowns hosted by Jix Hobbies was held on the 31st of May 2025 at the @West53 (formerly the Monument Park Tennis Club) venue in Pretoria. Thirteen players attended the event and provided a really varied field with only one potential mirror match that, as it turns our, never happened.obbies wHoo

After the initial four rounds of Swiss it was clear that Julian’s Kaz deck was trashing the field as he finished in first place with an impressive 4-0-0, taking down Helgard and Qi’ra, Stephan and Sabine and Shannon’s Poe build all two zip and only dropping one game against me and Cad.
That loss to Julian and Kaz was the only blemish on Stephan’s 3-1-0 run-in to second spot with Sabine, taking down Ryan’s Tarkin, David’s Cad and Helgard’s Qi’ra on the way.
I managed to get myself into third spot after the Swiss with victories over Manie’s scary Luke, Matthew’s Han III and Will’s Han I Green and that loss to that damn Kaz from Julian! Leaving me on 3-1-0.
Shannon’s Poe piloted it’s way into fourth with a 2-1-1 record. Poe beat Erhard’s ambush Fennec, drew with David’s Cad Red, lost to Julian and that frikkin’ Kaz nonsense and overcame Marnus and Boba 4.
Shannon then got his revenge on Kaz, by beating Julian 2-0 in the semi-final, while I managed to lose 2-1 to Stephan and Sabine in the other match.
Stephan took the final 2-0 with a convincing Sabine performance, proving once again that she may be from the original set (Spark of Rebellion) but Sabine still packs a punch against just about any build that can’t handle her aggro. Now with space units to really mess up your day.
It is interesting to note that the two “control” decks (here I refer to Will’s Han I and Helgard’s Qi’ra Data Vault) did not perform as well as expected on the day. This may have just been due to unlucky draws but also could be a sign that a more aggro meta is developing locally to combat the slower, controlling decks. We shall see. Also, a significant tally of Cunning and Command aspects in this tournament.
So, the final standings look like this:
Stephan Williams (scarpod) in first place with Sabine ECL – https://swudb.com/deck/HKTmkpDrmnwT
In second spot, Shannon Perumall with Poe Dameron Data Vault – https://swudb.com/deck/SyBltqbm
Finishing third was Julian Bishop (JulianB) and his incredibly fast Kazuda Xiono Cunning deck – https://swudb.com/deck/YwuVmLETNgzbA
And closing out fourth spot, myself (Crispiwan) and that rascally Cad Bane Tarkintown – https://swudb.com/deck/rAeLuJDuheMDp
Congratulations to all the players for a super event and a special thanks to Jix Hobbies for organising this event at short notice and to Will and @West53 for being an amazing host venue.
We’re looking forward to the next one!
