Fae Dominion, Wilds of Eldraine Precon Commander Deck
Review and Upgrade Guide

by Yolanda Stopforth (aka RunRabbit)

Who doesn’t like making a load of faeries, stealing other players’ creatures and causing mass mayhem on the battlefield? I know I love the idea and I loved playing this deck. Thanks to UnPlug Yourself for supplying the decks for us to have fun with.
What’s in the box? A lot of faeries. No seriously, there are A TONNE of faeries and a lot of ways to make more of the tiny flittering little fun-magnets. So, the deck is seriously on point. There are 29 creature cards and of those 28 are faeries, the only odd one out being [scryfall bf786c50-1ba1-4f81-a800-bc98189040dd]. I decided to play our match with [scryfall 79ba5c35-6e5c-406a-b95f-844d5ec296ab] as my commander instead of the face commander, [scryfall 03fab911-7bd4-45fa-ba07-cd0e51b0cd95]. This isn’t a reflection on Tegwyll, only on my continued enjoyment of playing Alela in both her iterations. (In fact, if memory serves, our guest on the show won with Tegwyll.) In addition to the 29 creatures, you also get 39 lands, 9 artifacts, 4 sorceries, and 17 instants and 2 enchantments. I feel this is a little heavy on the lands especially since 7 of your artifacts are mana rocks.

What does all this give you?

This deck gives the feeling that they gave it a good deal of thought when putting it together. It has flavour and structure while still bringing the chaos and randomness of the faerie realm to the deck.

There are a great many ways to interact with your opponent whether it’s stealing creatures from their graveyard with [scryfall 65fd8dba-0aca-4b47-9b4b-19d5c77cf8f3], or just stealing them directly from the battlefield with [scryfall 0d4a3eb3-8b28-49f7-a06c-eae26da6026b], or perhaps making a copy of an opponent’s creature with [scryfall ad0fc934-f49d-4607-a52b-aea5c1d5d342], [scryfall 1575a14e-fa70-44f0-8384-95cb90031337], [scryfall d7689217-6124-4b2c-ab8b-7067de7f6e22]. Nothing makes people want to scream at you like making a copy of their big baddie to hit them with.

If stealing things or copying them isn’t something you’re keen on, then tricks like turning your attacking creatures with flying into 4/4 red dragons in addition to their other types with [scryfall 2ad71a49-8a93-462f-a2c3-9362b33481fa] might be more your speed. Perhaps you would like to take an extra combat phase? Well, you can with [scryfall a00cc6ab-e97c-4eba-bc7e-49d77690433b]. You can even ping your opponent making them lose life for things you do with cards like [scryfall fffdf7f3-a230-417a-883a-069aabcbcca7] and [scryfall 63ce03ee-279b-4955-98e3-9ce1990f8b7b].

The shenanigans you can get up to with these little flittering fancies is just about endless. And you can stop your opponents from casting spells with [scryfall bd9af767-42da-46c7-a2b8-3957b2e3063f], [scryfall 7acbd812-b994-4e68-8f95-04222796e994] and [scryfall 24447e36-a42f-40a9-ad44-e904b6f9b276], so that they can’t stop your fun.

And then there is Hullbreaker Horror. That card! Sure, it’s expensive but so worth every last land you have to tap to get it on the board.

There is a fair amount of card draw in the deck with good old favourites [scryfall 015e9da6-c704-4b00-b717-8c07ba2b2ff7], [scryfall d60a91dc-c245-4f97-a345-2150c52dac64] and [scryfall ad973769-b2c3-44f7-84ae-f84e4f0991ff].

How does the deck play? It’s a lot of fun to play. No matter who you choose to be your commander out of the legendary creatures in the deck, they all interact with the deck in some way that is meaningful. I played Alela and our guest on the show played Tegwyll and both commanders did fine. The trick is to cause chaos among your opponents with this deck, make a whole lot of faeries, steal creatures, bounce things, take extra turns and have fun. This deck is designed to be a menace at any commander pod.
The Upgrade: For the upgrade we have to thank our guest from Command This, Clayton Bakker: Clayton has taken the time to tinker and perfect his deck and frankly I can’t think of a better way to improve on the precon which was a lot of fun to begin with. He swapped out the face commander Tegwyll for Alela, Cunning Conqueror. Clayton has taken out a few things and made some lovely, sound inclusions like [scryfall bdf9661d-b581-4496-9004-f292d9ac03ef] and [scryfall aef2eb36-f20d-4d90-a556-de2ba09b2635] among others. Here is the link to the upgraded decklist . It is certainly worth a good perusal.
In Conclusion: Whether played directly out of the box or with a few additives, this deck is one to watch. It is fun, has loads of interaction and is capable of dominating the battlefield. The Fae are a force to be reckoned with, for sure. I think I’ll take it for another spin and see you on the battlefield.
